The retail box for the Edimax EW-7438RPn Mini provides plenty of information, and should even let those people that aren't networking experts get a good understanding of what this device can do for them, including how the three modes operate.
Inside the box you find the EW-7438RPn Mini nestled in a form fitting crate, with a handful of inserts laid on top. In addition to the EW-7438RPn Mini, you get a CD with the manual and quick start guide on it, a printed quick start guide, a sheet about getting customer support, and a small card with connection details.
The Basics:
The device itself is very simple. The front panel features a bank of LEDs and WPS button that also serves as a hard reset button. The information provided by the LEDs is fairly extensive, so keep the quick start guide on hand to fully understand what the colors and blink patterns for the 5 different lights mean to you.
On one side of the device is an RJ-45 network jack, which is necessary in access point and bridge mode. In access point mode you will run a cable from the EW-7438RPn Mini to your wired network in order to create a wireless connection. In bridge mode you will run a cable from your EW-7438RPn Mini to any wired network device in order to make it a wireless device. In extender mode no cable is necessary.
On the back of the device is a typical 2-pronged power plug. Just plug the device in where it seems most appropriate and you are on your way.
