The ecobee Switch + comes packaged in a small box as you can see below.
The packaging consists of a sleeve over a box which is fairly typical for many devices. The first thing I noticed was the lack of information relating this ecobee product to ecobee thermostats. Most of the info is about Alexa and other integrations. Not necessarily a bad thing, just surprised they didn’t take the opportunity to promote their other devices.
Opening the box inside you will find the ecobee Switch+ and wall plate front and center under a plastic shell. In the top flap of the box is a pocket that has an installation manual. Lifting the switch and wallplate out of the box you’ll find a small bag of (4) wirenuts. Overall everything was well laid out, secure, and well protected.
The Basics:
Removing the ecobee Switch+ from the screwless wall plate I was immediately struck with how small it is. Out the back you will find four short pigtails to connect to your existing house wiring. Around the front is where you will find your manual controls, speaker and indicator light. In the image below you can see the layout of the controls. At the top you can enable/disable the microphone, the top right allows you to interrupt Alexa and just below that is the indicator light bar. The color changes based on the current state of the device, a list can be found here. Below the status light is the speaker. Below that is the occupancy sensor and directly below that you’ll find the manual switch control. At the very bottom of the ecobee Switch+ you will find a nightlight which is facing down. The device itself is rather simple and straightforward.
