Packaging and Accessories:
The DiskStation DS411 4-Bay NAS server's packaging must have found its way to a marketing team. Compared to the previous
Synology brand products we have checked out, this one takes the cake. There is a lot more information to be found on all four sides, and it looks more suited to be sold in a retail setting.
In the below left image we see the front of the package, which displays key services including mail, website, file server, backup, and surveillance. The below right image shows the back of the packaging, which details multiple items connected to the DiskStation. The smartphone and Wi-Fi/3G part is a little misleading, as there is no actual Wi-Fi or mobile access built into the unit, and you must have a wireless router and opened ports for WAN availability.
The left side shows more icons for the main features included on the front and back, as well as some additional icons for included capabilities in the below left image. For being a Synology DS user for the last two years I know that even the 12 icons are still not covering everything these puppies can do. In the below right image is the product sticker, which includes the serial number, services, etc.
After opening the top flaps we find the NAS protected inside the foam padding and inserts, and cardboard boxes containing the accessories. The unit is definitely secured in the packaging with foam wrapped all the way around, and two large foam inserts to absorb potential damage.
After removing the foam inserts and wrap from the DS411 it looks like the lost at birth sibling to the DS411+. In the image below you can see the last piece of protection in the film on the front bezel.
There are two cardboard boxes containing the accessories. Again those marketing people got their hands on the paperwork, and in contrast to previous models we have reviewed, there is a color quick start guide. In addition there are a bunch of screws, a power adapter and cable, a network cable, and the security lock piece, all as shown in the image below.
