When Synology said they were going to send over their 5-bay DS1019+ Network Attached Storage device for us to test I was a little confused as I had grown used to their nomenclature of using the number of bays as part of the model number. I am not quite sure when this changed, but a quick look at their site indicates this change may currently be in progress. Regardless this NAS was shipped to us populated with two 8TB Seagate IronWolf Pro drives for testing.

Bay number naming convention aside; The Synology DS1019+ is part of their Plus line. This “+” indicates it is designed for the demands of streaming and transcoding. This particular unit has a quad core 64-bit Intel Celeron J3455 CPU running at 1.5GHz (bursting to 2.3GHz), with 8GB of RAM pre-installed. Besides the (5) internal drive bays for 2.5 or 3.5” drives, you can expand it to 10 drives with an expansion unit, plus it has dual M.2NVMe slots. There are two Ethernet ports with link aggregation and fail over support. Below is a more comprehensive list of features and specifications, but for the most up to date and comprehensive list check out the official product page on the Synology website.
