Testing:
To test the Kingwin, the following base system was used:
» AMD Phenom x4 9500 2.2 GHz CPU
» ASUS M3A AMD 770 ATX Motherboard
» EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT / 512 MB / Superclocked Edition
» 2GB OCZ DDR2 Memory
» StarTech PCI-E 1x USB 3.0 PEXUSB3S2 Card
» 500 GB Seagate 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
» Windows XP w/SP3
The hard drive used in the Kingwin Dock Master for all benchmarks is a Seagate 1TB 7200.12 SATA II drive.
The Kingwin Dock Master will be tested via a USB 3.0 connection, as well as via a USB 2.0 connection. For further comparison, the drive will also be tested on a Thermaltake BlacX USB 2.0 dock, as well as on an internal SATA 3Gbps header.
The following tests will be executed on each configuration to gauge its performance:
» Crystal Disk Mark v.2.22
» Real World Transfers
Crystal Disk Mark v.2.22:
The first test from Crystal Disk Mark was for sequential read. As seen below, the USB 3.0 connection out performs the USB 2.0 connection around by 80 MB/s.
The Crystal Disk Mark sequential write test was similar as it out performed the USB 2.0 connection by around 70 MB/s.
