I suspect the boxes we received were early production or sample product. I say that because there were no manuals or quick start guides in the package. A quick start guide is available online though. Moving past the lack of set up info the devices can be set up in one of two methods, using the WPS on most routers or doing a manual set up. I chose the later assuming it would be the most complicated and worst case scenario.
The first step is to download the mydlink Home app which is available for both Android and iOS users. Once downloaded you will need to connect your mobile device to the wireless network you want the devices to run on. Then you open the app and you will have to set up a user account with D-Link. Each time you open the app you will be automatically logged into this account to control your devices where ever you are.
On the start page of the app you will see at the top left the icon for settings, in the middle it indicates which tab you are on and on the right you can toggle between tabs. The tabs are My Devices, My Actions and My Places.
To add devices you hit the settings tab, this brings you to the setup screen which asks you to scan the QR code or skip this step. I tried both and noticed no difference in setup. Regardless of whether you scan the included card or not the next page will ask you to select device type. After selecting your type of device you then start the hardware set up and the app walks you through. First plug in your device. Then wait for device LED to blink orange. At this point you can use WPS mode to complete the process, or select to go in manual mode. It then instructs you to connect to the devices wireless network. After you connect the app will search for the device. Once it finds the device you will need to input the PIN code found on the back of the device or the included card.
Following these simple steps you can add up to 99 devices to each account. Once you have all your devices connected you start setting up your automation or alerts.
