It's been a while since we've seen a CPU cooler show up on the doorsteps, but today we have one of the more popular coolers on the market for us to test - the Cooler Master V8. Even though the V8 was launched in June of 2008, it is only now beginning to see its true potential thanks to the popularity of the Intel Core i7 and i5 processors, and the tremendous amount of heat they can produce.

The promotional image above shows us an overview of what we'll be testing, but before we get to that let's look at what Cooler Master has to say about their innovative device:

On top of its stylish finish, the V8 Cooler has quite some rich features. For heat dissipation it is supported with it's smart 180W cooling solution. Modularized by 4 separate set of aluminum fins and linked by 8 diagonal up-rise heat pipes, the V8 structural design allows speedy heat transfer to a large heat dissipation surface. Another excellent key feature of the V8, is its precision fan control. The V8 is compatible with all current CPU sockets, and provides unsurpassed cooling performance.

Eight Heatpipes: Eight high performance heatpipes maximize heat transfer to push cooling performance to the next level.

Mirror-finished Base: A mirror-finished copper base maximizes heat absorption and transfer for excellent cooling.

Four Sets of Aluminum Fins: Four separate modular sets of aluminum fins create a large heat dissipation surface for unsurpassed cooling performance.

Center Mounted 120mm Fan with Fan Speed Controller: A 120mm 800 - 1800RPM cooling fan is mounted to the center of the Cooler Master V8 for optimum airflow. The PCI slot fan speed controller supports manual speed adjustments from 7V to 12V for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.

Core i7 Compatible: Compatible with the socket LGA1366, the Cooler Master V8 supports Intel's latest-generation Core i7 processors. It also features broad compatibility with AMD socket 940, AM2, and AM2+ platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.
