Testing:
System specifications for testing are as follows:
» Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro
» Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
» Memory: 8GB G.Skill PC2 6400
» Video: MSI Radeon HD5850
» Operating System: Window 7 64bit
» Hard Disk Drives: Corsair P128 SSD (OS), 2 - Western Digital Green 750GB SATA drives (data)
For testing, I installed one of the Western Digital Green 750GB drives into my test system and the other identical drive into the BlacX Duet. Primary testing was done using Crystal Disk Mark v2.2 100MB file size. HD Tach 3.0.4.0. was used for average read speed and burst read speed comparisons.
Tests were run on the docking station hard drive using both the eSATA and USB 2.0 connections, and the comparison hard drive connected directly to the motherboards SATA port.
Below we see the sequential read / write results for Crystal Disk 2.2. The docking station hard drives eSATA results are approximately 7% lower than the performance numbers of the hard drive directly connected to the motherboard. USB 2.0 results, although far lower, are quite respectable when compared to other external USB 2.0 hard drives.
