The Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 was evaluated using a typical array of storage benchmarks. These benchmarks and tests include: HD Tach 184.108.40.206 RW, SiSoft Sandra XI SP1, , real world data transfers, and thermal testing. Results for the 1TB Seagate
drive provided for this review are compared with the other hard drives referenced on the previous page for reference.
HD Tach 220.127.116.11 RW:
HD Tach reveals the burst speed of the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 is 15.9ms, slower than the competition. While we would prefer this number to be lower it's certainly not a bad score. The drive does much better when you consider the average read speed which comes in at 108MB/s (more than 40% better than the competition). In terms of burst speed the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 gets beat out by no more than a 10% margin, with a burst speed of 221.4MB/s.
SiSoft Sandra XI SP1:
The physical disk test in SiSoft Sandra reveals once again that the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 has the slowest average access time (15ms). However, when it came to the Drive Index score the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 beats out the competition with a score of 121MB/s (with performance nearly 40% greater than the closest competitor). SiSoft Sandra results align very closely to the HD Tach benchmarks.
