Testing:
The following applications were used to verify memory's performance:
Passmark Performance Test 7.0 Build 1031 (64-Bit),
SiSoft Sandra Lite 2012.09.18.66, and
AIDA64 Extreme Edition 2.50.2000. Please realize we are comparing an 8GB vs a 16GB kit in these tests. Certainly this impacts direct comparisons of the two kits. Testing a single 8GB kit of Tactical memory against the two sticks of the Crucial Elite kit also affects results however due to the dual-data-rate (DDR) nature of computer memory.
Passmark Performance Test 7.0 Build 1031 (64-Bit):
PassMark includes five memory tests as well as an overall composite score. The memory tests are measured in terms of MB/s, with a higher score being better. The composite score is shown in unit-less "Marks," and higher is also better. Passmark results tended to show negligible differences between overclocked and non-overclocked memory settings. Other Bigbruin.com memory reviews have established this trend.
First up is the "Memory Allocate Small Block" which gives the 16GB Tactical kit a 4% advantage over the 8GB Elite kit. Overclocking the Tactical memory did not improve performance.
Then we have the "Memory Read - Cached" results, which show no significant difference between the Crucial Ballistix Tactical or Elite memory kits. No benefit to overclocking is observed.
Next up are the "Memory Read - Uncached" results, which also show little difference between the Tactical and Elite kits. Aagain, overclocking the kits did not have a significant affect.
