Packaging:
The usual Crucial clamshell design holds the Ballistix Tactical LP 16GB DDR3 1600MHz kit in place. A single sticker on the front of packaging describes the kit's capacity (16GB), the clock frequency (1600MHz), and the CL8 timings. "VLP" is also designated to remind you this kit uses the "Low Profile" printed circuit boards.
The Basics:
An overall view of the Crucial Tactical LP memory sticks is shown below. As you can see from the image, these modules do have quite a low profile! "Ballistix Tactical LP" is broadly written across the yellow mini-heatspreader in black text.
A small sticker on one side of each stick denotes the memory kit part number, frequency, CL8 latency, and 1.35v voltage specification.
Finally we have a "before" and "after" installation picture. As you can see from the pictures below there is a big clearance difference between the test system's previously installed Ballistix Elite kit and the new Tactical LP series memory. The low profile kit easily fits beneath the review system Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Heatpipe CPU Cooler. The impact of these lower height modules would be even more pronounced with the truly mammoth heatsinks out there!
