Testing:
The tests to be executed include the following four popular benchmark applications, as listed below.
» Windows 7 Experience
» PassMark Performance Test v7.0
» Sisoftware Sandra Professional 2009.SP4
» Lavalys Everest Ultimate Edition 5.30.1900
Windows 7 Experience:
For this comparison we will look at the memory portion of the results available from the benchmark found in the Windows 7 Control Panel. The unit-less values have a maximum of 7.9, and higher is better.
As you can see from the chart above, even at stock speeds the Crucial Ballistix modules score quite well, and as we overclock another 248MHz we gain another tenth of a point.
PassMark Performance Test v7.0:
Our next benchmark is PassMark's Performance Test v7.0. Only the memory portion of this rather extensive suite was used for comparison purposes. The charts below deal with read (both cached and uncached) and write speeds, small block allocation, and how the modules deal with large chunks of data. Higher scores are better for each test.
Based on our data, at stock speeds the Crucial memory was the slowest of the pack in every test, but after we overclocked it it was the best in three of the five tests.
