Testing (continued):
Resident Evil 5:
Another 3D game to consider is Resident Evil 5. It has an integrated DirectX 10 benchmark that was run at a resolution of 1680x1050, with 8x Anti-Aliasing, and with settings on high. The benchmark provides results in terms of a composite frame rate value, and higher is better.
Here we again see the HD6870 performing much like an HD5870, and once overclocked it puts up the highest results in this test.
Dirt 2:
Colin McRae's Dirt 2 is a 3D racing game that takes advantage of DirectX 11, and features an integrated benchmarking tool. The benchmark was run with a resolution of 1680x1050, with 4x AA and 16x AF. It provides results in terms of a minimum and an average FPS (frames per second), but we'll just focus on the average value. Higher is better for these results.
This test favors the HD5870, as even with overclocking the HD6870 couldn't catch up to it as it could with other games.
