The Basics (continued):
Opening the lid of the 701SD reveals the typical business end of a laptop, or netbook in this case. You have the screen on the lid, and the keyboard on the base of the unit. Nothing surprising here.
The 7" screen looks tiny within the bezel of the lid. It appears to have a large amount of wasted space, however there are speakers flanking the screen. Directly above the screen is the 0.3MP webcam, which can come in handy. This is an extremely low resolution camera so don't expect a lot out of it in terms of picture and video quality.
As expected the keyboard is tiny. I'm told my hands are fairly small, and the keys are no bigger than my pinky finger. It will take a little getting used to this smaller keyboard. All the keys you usually find on a laptop are there. Some keyboards feel cheap when you type on them, but the ASUS 701SD keyboard was responsive, and was not very noisy when I typed on it. There is a slight click to the keys, but that is to be expected.
Before you go to use the 701SD, you need to slide the battery into place and charge it up. After that, you should be ready to go.
