Software:
Arctic Cooling included a CD with drivers and software that is needed to use the P531 USB headset. The funny thing is that when I went to try to use the headphones I couldn’t find the software. I took a quick look in the box, and nothing. I even checked their website and was unable to find anything. Needless to say their review was starting to not look so good. But I decided to look in the box one more time, and look what I found:
It appears they tape the CD to the back of the box, in a white paper CD sleeve against a white background. While this is a great way to make sure the CD is there, it did make it a little hard to find for those of us who are just trying to play with our new toy as quickly as possible. I’m also a bit disappointed that they don’t have the software for download on their website, or if they do it’s not any place I could find it.
The software installation was uneventful, and in this section we'll take a quick look at some of the screens from the Arctic Sound P531 control panel used to configure the headset to your liking.
First you can choose your speaker setup...
There are many different presets and custom sound settings available on the equalizer tab. Out of all of the equalizer settings, the classic one sounds the best to me. Also, the medium environment size sounded best.
There is also a tab with controls for all of your Karaoke needs, if you're in to that.
For some reason Windows 7 doesn't list these as headphones in the Sound devices listing; they show up as speakers. Odd, but I have a feeling that is just Windows. It is easy enough to change the icon to show headphones if that is what you want (and I did).
