In the last year we have covered two smart water sensors that are compatible with the Samsung SmartThings system - one from LeakSmart and one from Aeotec. These two units were very different in their physical design and communication technology (Z-Wave vs Zigbee), but they were both very capable when it came to providing alerts regarding the presence of water. In this review we are going to take a look at another smart water sensor - the Xiaomi Aqara Smart Water Sensor.



The Xiaomi Aqara smart water sensor is a compact puck-like device that operates on a single button cell battery (CR2032) which uses Zigbee to communicate with SmartThings and other compatible home automation systems. With a price tag that can possibly be much lower than the other two water sensors we have checked out, we'll see exactly what you can expect with Xiaomi's take on this technology.
