Packaging and Accessories:
The
Actiontec PWR51WK01 kit is sold in the well detailed packaging shown below. You get a good view of the product, as well as plenty of information regarding what it can do for you. The front and back of the packaging give you an overview of what the device can do, and why it is a preferred method to wireless repeaters.
The ends of the box detail not only the contents, but the specifications of the product and the system requirements.
Inside the box you will find the PWR500, the WPB3000, and an Ethernet cable.
The Basics:
First we will go over the PWR500, as seen in the images below. This is a small (approximately 45mm x 65mm x 25mm) powerline adapter that has three diagnostic LEDs on the front. One to indicate power and the other two to indicate powerline link and Ethernet activity. On the bottom there is an Ethernet port and an unmarked button for security set up. This is the device you would locate closest to your router. It also does not have a polarized plug so you can rotate the unit to not block an outlet if needed. The unit is rated for 500Mbps transfer speeds.
The other piece of this puzzle is the WPB3000. This unit is much larger (approx. 60mm x 105mm x 50 mm), but considering it is also provides a wireless N access point, the increased size should be expected. As you can see in the images below, it has LEDs on the front to indicate power, link activity, wireless and Ethernet port 1&2 activity, a security button, a reset button, and WPS button. This device supports wireless B, G & N, is rated for 300Mbps, and operates at 2.4GHz.
