As mentioned at the start, this is a fairly simple device. The unit we received is mostly white with a silver ring around the top edge.
Centered on the top is the CatDrive logo. Flipping the unit over you’ll see (4) rubber feet and several vents for cooling. On the side of the unit there is the power input and Ethernet port. Overall the device appears to be well made of quality materials.
Setup:
We initially received this device the end of October. But at the time we were told only the iOS app was available but that the android app was coming soon. While an iOS app may have been available elsewhere, it was not available for download on the US store for.
It wasn’t until just before Christmas that we were sent an unreleased APK file to install in order to evaluate this unit. Since this app took two months to get and still wasn’t official, I was very concerned about the functionality. So let’s see if these fears were well founded.
After installing the app I started the install process which is fairly straight forward following the steps in the app. As you can see below there is still quite a bit of Chinese in the app, though I have been promised a more complete fully English app will be released in January. After providing your phone number you will be sent a code to verify the number. Then you are instructed to power up the unit and connect it to your network.
After that, the app searches the network for your CatDrive. My first attempt failed. But after that it was found and I moved onto binding the device. You will be given the option of inviting others to use your device and then you are complete. Overall I was pleased with the ease of installation given the state of the app.
