The Basics:

In the images below we see the front and rear faces of the fairly compact ASUSTOR AS6302T. The specifications list the dimensions in millimeters (163.5(H) x 108(W) x 230(D) mm) which works out to it being about 6-1/2" tall by 4-1/4" wide and 9" deep. The front of the device's main features include a power button with status LED, a drive activity LED, two LEDs for network connection status, a single USB 3.0 port, and the two tool-less drive bays. The back of the unit features an exhaust fan, a USB C port, two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, an SPDIF connection, two RJ45 Gigabit network connections, reset button, and cable lock connection. I like all the USB 3.0 ports available on the AS6302T, and the inclusion of a USB C connection (which is USB 3.0 compliant) is a novel feature to me that seems like a great idea. The USB ports have a wide range of uses on this NAS, including typical things like USB hard drives / flash drives and printers, but you can also use them for adding WiFi or Bluetooth dongles, external optical drives, input devices, IR receivers, and even digital-to-analog audio convertors. The AS6302T has strong multimedia capabilities, and the ability to add these other types of USB devices definitely helps that!

The next two images show the sides of the device, where we see that one side is solid, and the other has some ventilation holes. We can also see a bit of the bottom of the housing, where four small rubber feet will hold up off your desk / shelf.

The next two images show the drive trays being removed from the device. Simply depress the button on the face of either drive tray, and a handle will pop out as it is unlatched from the housing. Raising the handle allows you to pull the drive tray out without the need for any tools. Some NAS servers have this tool-less approach, but they will also include a keyed locked to prevent unauthorized removal.
