Packaging and Accessories:
As mentioned, we receiver the SSD Upgrade Kit bundled 960GB UV500 SSD. The retail packaging below shows you everything that you receive, and what you can expect from your new SSD.
The next two images shows you how the components are packed, and that the Acronis software can be activated with the code provided on the card after you have downloaded and installed it. The main accessories include the USB enclosure, the steel mounting plate (with screws) to adapt the 2.5" drive to fit a 3.5" drive bay, and SATA data/power cables.
What surprised me is that each accessory was individually sealed in a plastic bag, but that the drive - the valuable item in the box - was rather haphazardly tossed in the bottom of the box without anything extra provided to protect it. Visible under the SSD is the spacer that allows you to use the 7mm thick drive in bays that are designed for 9mm thick units.
The Basics:
The images below show the top and bottom of the drive, which really aren't anything out of the ordinary. The drive enclosure is made of metal which has an appealing matte gun-metal grey finish. I would have taken a look inside, but instead of a more typical screw head, Kingston has used a secure Torx style screw head, and that little cylinder of metal in the center meant either buying a new set of tools or gouging the screws with the tools I have on hand in order to get inside. We'll skip that step this time!
The next image shows the drive with the spacer, where we can see it is a simple plastic frame with adhesive on two ends which would allow the frame to stay stuck to the drive for a secure installation in areas where it is needed.
