Testing (continued):
Performance Test V7.0:
PassMark's Performance Test v7.0 was used for the next round of testing. While it does offer a quick and easy "Disk Mark" analysis, I chose to use some of the pre-configured tests found on the advanced tab. The results below are from the File Server, Web Server, and Workstation tests, all results are in MB/s, and higher is better for each test.
I had not used this portion of Performance Test before, and overall the numbers just seemed kind of low. But, comparing drive to drive shows that they are all comparable, even if the 2TB Western Digital is generally about the slowest.
CrystalDiskMark 2.2:
Looking for something new to use in reviews, I stumbled upon CrystalMark's CrystalDiskMark version 2.2. The compact interface allows you to test a variety of read and write speed characteristics of a drive, with all results provided in terms of MB/s (and higher is better). The results shown below were all achieved using "Test 5" set to 100MB.
This test shows that the Caviar Green 2TB drive can hang with the two 750GB drives in all tests. The determination of which drive finished on top in any given test seems somewhat random, but the results were all rather close.
