Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB Hard Drive
March 24, 2009

The Basics:

We'll take a look at the Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB hard drive itself, although like most hard drives there isn't anything to get too excited about.

The two images below provide an overview of the top surface of the drive. Even without a label bearing their name, it is identifiable as a Western Digital product thanks to the black circular stickers affixed to various areas of the cover. The label provides a variety of data on the drive, including specifications, certifications, and of course information regarding it being from the Green series.

The below left image takes a look at the other side of the drive. There isn't anything too interesting, but I do like that Western Digital uses PCBs that do not have any exposed electrical features. I have killed a drive or two from other brands because of inadvertent contact with the memory or other chips found in this area.

The above right image shows the data and power connections at the end of the drive. The eight pins found to the left can be jumpered to achieve different functions described on the data label.
