The Basics:
The Vantec NBA-100U 5.1 Channel USB Audio Adapter is shown below, and is basically a small puck on the end of a two foot long USB cable. The body of the device is about 2-3/4" in diameter and about 3/4" high, so it isn't going to take up much space on your desktop.
The top of the NB-100U is home to just three features; a volume down button, a volume up button, and a white translucent area which I assumed was also a button. Once in use it is obvious that this is just a status light of sorts.
The images below show the 1/8" connections found around the edge of the audio adapter. All five connections are well labeled and include (from left to right): Rear Audio, Center / Sub Woofer, Front Audio, Mic-in, and Line-in.
On the bottom are four rubber feet that are more substantial than the audio adapter could possibly need in terms of weight support, scratch prevention, and vibration isolation. But, they do well to keep the device in place while in use, as it doesn't slide around even with all the cables pulling it in different directions.
Accessories:
There isn't much else included or required with the NBA-100U, and below you see the balance of accessories. You have a brief user's manual and a driver / application CD.
