External Examination (continued):
There are only two cables hard-wired to the unit, and they are not the two you might expect. Generally you find the 24-pin motherboard cable and the 8/4-pin 12V cable are permanently attached, but on this unit it is the 24-pin motherboard cable and an 8-pin PCI Express cable. It seems a bit odd that you have to have an 8-pin PCI Express cable installed which may or may not be needed, but the almost mandatory 8/4-pin 12V cable has been made optional. I plan on using both, so it does not matter, but for those who have minimal space for wire management, this oddity may be unwelcome.
The below left image shows the data label which provides a good deal of information, including confirmation of the specifications listed previously. The below right image shows the back side of the power supply where the modular connections can be found. There is one black 8-pin connector that is used for the 4/8-pin 12V cable, two red 6-pin connectors for PCI Express cables, and four black 6-pin connectors for SATA and 4-pin power cables. This image also shows that the two hard-wired cables are neatly finished with heat shrink tubing, while the opening in the housing is finished with a rubber ring to keep the edge from abrading the cables.
The below left image shows the two hard-wired cables from end to end. These, and all the other modular cables have adequate lengths that should reach anywhere in a midtower case with ease, and they should be fine in many full tower cases. They are not the longest cables I have seen, but they should be fine for a typical system.
The above right image shows all of the modular cables included (minus the special 8-pin to 6-pin PCI Express cable shown earlier), and the list below summarizes what is included:
» 1x 4/8-pin 12V cable
» 2x 6-pin PCI Express cables
» 2x cables with a total of seven 4-pin connections and two floppy connections
» 2x cables with a total of six SATA connections
