Thermaltake DuOrb Heatpipe CPU Cooler
|
Conclusion:
The Thermaltake DuOrb heatpipe CPU cooler wound up producing fantastic thermal results. Adding this cooler to most systems will bring temperatures down because of the great, innovative design. Installing the cooler on a motherboard with an open layout should be very simple thanks to the well thought out mounting hardware that will hold the cooler in place and will keep it from sliding around.
As seen in the review, there could be issues installing the DuOrb on some motherboards. The mounting clip had to be modified to fit between the heatsinks on a 790i motherboard, and I could only install the cooler in one orientation due to the very tall northbridge heatsink. There also could be issues when using this cooler with tall memory modules, since the cooler will hang over the memory slots in certain configurations.
A search of the Internet finds the Thermaltake DuOrb heatpipe CPU cooler available from a few resellers (including Newegg.com) with a price just over $60 (US). This is a little on the high side for a CPU cooler, but it definitely does an excellent job of cooling.
The Thermaltake DuOrb heatpipe CPU cooler earns the awards of "Recommended" and "Gaming Approved" for the great cooling results achieved, even while overclocked.
Pros:
» Cooled by a pair of quiet 80mm fans
» Fantastic cooling results
» Mirror finish on copper base
» Simple mounting design
Cons:
» Must remove motherboard for installation
» Will not install with tall memory modules
» Tight fit for motherboards with heatsinks around CPU socket (790i, for example)
» Price is a little on the high side
» May over hang top expansion slot on some AMD motherboards
