Testing (continued):
The tests to be executed include one synthetic benchmark, four benchmarks integrated with 3D games, thermal testing, and power consumption testing. Each card was run through the following tests, and the system was rebooted between each run.
» FutureMark 3DMark Vantage
» Devil May Cry
» PT Boats - Knights of the Sea
» Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts
» Call of Juarez
» Thermal Testing
» Power Consumption Testing
FutureMark 3DMark Vantage:
We'll start with the latest 3D gaming benchmark from FutureMark... 3DMark Vantage. The complete suite of tests was executed at a resolution of 1280x1024 and in "Performance" mode (higher is better for all results).
Here we see the Toxic version of the HD4870 stake its claim as the leader of the HD4800 series cards by putting up a total score about 3% higher than the stock speed HD4870, and about 15% higher than the Toxic HD4850. Notice that the dual GPU HD3870 X2 is still the top performer overall. Despite being a previous generation card, throwing two processors at this benchmark is obviously one way to score higher.
