Tagan TG1300-U33 In The Zone Series 1300W Power Supply
|
Conclusion:
I have tested many 1000W power supplies and have yet to find one that is truly flawed. Each one of them would provide more than adequate power to any system that could take advantage of such a unit. The Tagan TG1300-U33 In The Zone Series 1300W power supply goes beyond providing adequate power and should be able to provide power to any extreme system for many years to come.
The number of SATA, 4-pin drive, PCI-E (two of which are PCI-E eight pin), and Physics Card power connectors will allow the user to install a large number of devices. Then consider the addition of extras like the anti-vibration gasket and the four pin power to SATA connectors, and we have a power supply that is prepared for just about any situation.
While many might be concerned about the six individual 20A 12V rails, I did not experience any issue with any one of them. They were powerful enough to run two nVidia 8800GTS video cards in addition to all the other system components. The auto-combine feature is a nice touch, as it allows for the 12V rails to be joined into one rail if it should be needed.
While not technically a fault, the only cause for concern I have is with the size of the unit. While any individual that needs this amount of power probably won't be using a tiny case, it is slightly larger than a standard power supply, which could lead to interference issues. In addition, the high quality PCI-E power cables are a little difficult to manage, and could be difficult to hide if not in use..
A search of PriceGrabber provides links to retailers carrying every other model of Tagan ITZ power supply, but not the 1300W model. Digging a bit deeper shows that the 1300W model can be found at places like Newegg.com, where it will set you back just under $400 before shipping or tax! This is definitely alot of money for a power supply, but compared to other similar high-powered, high-end units it is not really out of line.
Given the exceptional stability and performance, the quality and variety of cabling, as well as all the included extras, I award the Tagan TG1300-U33 In The Zone Series 1300W power supply the rating of "Highly Recommended".
