Testing (continued):
PT Boats - Knights of the Sea:
PT Boats - Knights of the Sea is a 3D high seas adventure game that includes a DirectX 10 benchmark. The benchmark provides a minimum, maximum, and average frame rate value (higher is better) and for testing purposes a resolution of 1280x1024 (60Hz) and 4x anti-aliasing were used. Things get interesting here as the HD4870 pulls out the win, although none of the values are particularly high.
Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts:
Company of Heroes is a World War II themed 3D game that also includes a benchmark for testing the DirectX 10 capabilities of your system as it relates to game play. With the settings on high, a resolution of 1280x1024, and 4x anti-aliasing, it was executed on all three cards. Results in terms of minimum, maximum, and average frame rate values are provided, and higher is better for all three. This time around all three cards performed similarly in terms of maximum frame rate value, but the HD4870 seals the victory by putting up the best minimum and maximum results, while barely getting beaten by the HD3870 X2 in terms of average frame rate value.
Call of Juarez:
Call of Juarez is a wild west themed 3D game, and yet another to offer a benchmark for analyzing DirectX 10 performance. The results are provided in terms of minimum, maximum, and average frame rate values, and higher is better for each. The results below were achieved with the system set to a resolution of 1280x1024, 4x anti-aliasing, and high settings. The HD4870 really shine here, and to my surprise the single core HD3870 even beats the HD3870 X2. I tested the HD3870 X2 three separate times, but it just couldn't do any better, as if it was only able to use one of the GPUs onboard. No matter what, the HD4870 doubled up the HD3870 in terms of maximum frame rate, and put up a huge boost when it came to average frame rate value, too.
