Testing (continued):
Devil May Cry:
Devil May Cry includes a benchmark with the game that is able to analyze DirectX 10 performance. The benchmark runs through four scenes from the game and provides results in terms of the average frame rate values achieved in each one (higher is better). With the system set to a resolution of 1280x1024, with 8x anti-aliasing, and with high settings, the results below were achieved.
The trend is similar to what was seen in 3DMark Vantage. The HD3870 X2 is the winner, followed closely by the single GPU HD4870, and with a small gap separating these two cards from the Toxic HD4850 in third place. For those thinking of upgrading from an HD3870, you can see just how much you could gain by going to a HD4850 (or HD4870).
PT Boats - Knights of the Sea:
PT Boats - Knights of the Sea is another 3D game that includes a DirectX 10 benchmark. The benchmark provides a minimum, maximum, and average frame rate value (higher is better for each) and each card was run through the test at a resolution of 1280x1024 (60Hz) and with 4x anti-aliasing.
The results are low across the board, but here we find the Toxic HD4850 moving into second place behind the HD4870. On screen performance was generally smooth when the action was light, but each card stuttered in all of the scenes with more going on.
