Testing (continued):
PT Boats - Knights of the Sea:
PT Boats - Knights of the Sea is a 3D game that happens to include a DirectX 10 benchmark. The benchmark provides results in terms of a minimum, maximum, and average frame rate value, and higher is better for all three. Testing was conducted at a resolution of 1680x1050 and with 8x anti-aliasing.
None of the numbers look that impressive with the settings up this high. Switching to one of the other cards only improves the average frame rate value produced by the Radeon HD4830 by 1-4 fps, but it will cost well over $100 to make such an upgrade!
Devil May Cry:
Devil May Cry is another 3D game that includes a benchmark to test the DirectX 10 performance. The benchmark runs through four scenes from the game and outputs the average frame rate values achieved in each one (higher is better). The results in the chart below were achieved at a resolution of 1360x1024 and with 8x anti-aliasing.
In this test the Radeon HD4830 just can't compete with the two higher end configurations, and the results look more like what I expected going in to the review. The results indicate that the game would still be playable at these settings, but the performance is far below the other two.
