Testing (continued):
Performance Test v6.1:
PassMark's Performance Test v6.1 also features a whole suite of benchmarks that can be used to analyze the performance of your system. As was done in PCMark Vantage, only the gaming portion of the suite was executed, which they refer to as the "3D Graphics Mark" test. Higher numbers are better for this unitless value.
Another similarility with PCMark Vantage is that this test didn't scale the way I expected. The HD3870 X2 puts up the highest score, but the margin of victory seems rather narrow.
Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts:
"Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts" is a DirectX 10 capable game that can put some serious strain on a video card. The game features a built in performance test and it was executed on all four cards. The chart below shows the minimum, maximum, and average frame rate values achieved with the game set to run at 1280x1024, high settings, and DirectX 10 mode enabled.
The maximum frame rate value seems to peak at just over 60 fps for any card, but the minimum and average values look much better on the HD 3870 X2. As compared to the HD3870 TOP, the HD3870 X2 does 25% better on average, and the minimum value is 44% better.
