Testing (continued):
Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts:
"Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts" is a DirectX 10 game that features a built in performance test which was executed on each card. The chart below shows the minimum, maximum, and average frame rate values achieved with the game set to run at 1280x1024, with high settings, and with DirectX 10 mode enabled.
Overall we see that perhaps the settings should be turned down in order to make the game more enjoyable, as the minimum frame rates drop quite low. That said, the 1024MB Radeon HD3850 does slightly better than the 256MB version, and when it comes to the average frame rate value the improvement is exactly 5%.
F.E.A.R. Extraction Point:
F.E.A.R. Extraction Point was analyzed using Fraps, a utility that allows you to monitor in-game performance of any 3D game. The utility was configured to record the minimum, maximum, and average frame rate values over 180 second periods where game play was repeated as closely as possible on each card. The game itself was run at a resolution of 1280x960 and with the settings on high.
What we see is that all cards max out at levels far beyond what you could take advantage of, and even the average frame rate values are fairly high. In the end, the 1024MB card outscores the 256MB card by about 6% when it comes to average frame rates values.
