Sunbeamtech Quarterback ATX Case
July 31, 2007

Conclusion:

Sunbeamtech certainly knows how to make good, low cost cases. This case has many of the features that gamers and computer enthusiasts demand, without breaking the bank. The front door gives the case a nice unique look (something reminiscent of recent Dell XPS systems), while the side panel allows you a small view of the interior components. Unfortunately, the side panel could have been laid out a bit differently, and provided a better view.

What sets this case apart is the inclusion of the Core Fan system. Increasing the airflow across your hot components is always a plus. While my idle temperatures didn't decrease when using the Core Fan, the load temperatures did decrease a bit. The other major advantage of this case is the noise level, or rather the lack of noise. I was surprised at how quiet it is, and it even seemed to silence the noise from my eVGA 7900GT.

A few concerns with the Quarterback might not impact everybody. With a SLI or Cross-Fire configuration the vented side panel will only help the upper card, while the lower one will be concealed and get less airflow. Another minor concern I have with this case is that the lower Core Fan could be an issue if you have any of the longer video cards, especially in SLI or Cross-Fire configurations. A single eVGA 7900GTO barely fit, even when I moved the lower Core Fan to its lowest position.

A search of PriceGrabber did not return any results. However, manually checking other sources online finds this case for $59.99 at both Newegg.com and Xoxide.com. If you need a good, low cost case with a lot to offer, this is a great choice.

Given the performance and overall nice features, but taking into account the issues I encountered with the Core Fan system and my concerns with the side panel, I award the Sunbeamtech Quarterback ATX Case the rating of "Recommended".

Pros:

» Tool-less drive and expansion card installation
» Four ultra silent 120mm fans included (rated at 16dB)
» Louvered front covers
» Access to optical drives with "door" closed

Cons:

» Side panel vent does not cover all VGA cards
» Front intake fan not included
» Side window does not provide a good view of components
» Core Fan too close to longer video cards

Special thanks to Sunbeamtech for providing the Sunbeamtech Quarterback ATX Case to Bigbruin.com for review!
