Sunbeamtech Quarterback ATX Case

Core Fan System:

The Quarterback Core Fan system is simply the addition of typical fans inside your case placed to increase the airflow to certain areas/components. The Core Fan system includes two 120mm clear case fans attached to a metal bar. Once installed, one fan is placed near the CPU, while the second fan helps to push air over your video card and other expansion cards. The lower fan on the Core Fan unit caused a bit of concern. If you have a longer video card, the lower fan might interfere with it. Thankfully you can move the lower fan a little, and hopefully get it to work for you. However, you will not be able to get it to fit if you have a SLI or Cross-Fire setup with long video cards. A 120mm fan will take up five holes on the Core Fan bar, but if you went to smaller fans (maybe 80mm) you could give yourself a little more room (although this was not actually tested).

Accessories:

Sunbeamtech includes all the necessary accessories, including a simple user manual (which most of us will not need), a plethora of screws and motherboard standoffs, four case feet, and finally the tool-less hard drive installation rails. The tool-less hard drive rails simply pop onto your hard drive using the standard screw holes. You can then easily slide a hard drive into the hard drive cage and it pops into place.

Installation:

Once everything was installed, the side panel was able to be reattached. With the cables, fan, vent, and Core Fan system in place, you are not able to see much through the window. In my opinion, the purpose of a side window is defeated, but it does look great once the LEDs on the fan light up.

There are two further issues with the Core Fan and the installed 7900GTO. Both of them are fairly minor, but if the card was any longer it would not work at all. I could not install an 8800GTS (or GTX) in this case and use the Core Fan. The first picture shows that the power cable for the video card rests on the bottom 120mm fan. The second picture shows that the edge of the video card heat sink rests on the fan housing.

The installation of the optical drive presented a benefit of the wide open design of the front door. If the optical drive is positioned in the right bay, you can access the drive without opening the front door! This is extremely helpful, as I hate opening doors to insert/remove a disc. Also, I was able to install a removable hard drive chassis behind one of the "bars" on the door. If the front door had a lock the drive would be a bit more secure, but there is no lock on the front door.
