Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB External Hard Drive

Software (continued):
The backup tab is where you would setup a backup schedule. Most users will like the Simple Backup because it can be setup in three clicks. If you are a power user and want full control over the backup, then Custom Backup is for you. You can choose which locations on your computer to backup, as well as choosing file types to backup. You may also pick what day and time you want the backup to execute.
The Sync tab will keep the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB External Hard Drive synchronized between multiple computers. Again, like the backup tab, you have options of Simple and Custom Sync. The Custom Sync follows the same setup as the Custom Backup where you can specifically set up the task.
The Safety tab is for making a SafetyDrill image of your entire hard drive in case of a crash. This is always a good idea for anyone. This part of the Maxtor Manager software will create a full image file of your hard drive and store it in a folder on the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB External Hard Drive. You can schedule the frequency at which images are created, as well as limit the number of image copies to save (because a full image can easily chew up the space on your hard drive).
When I first tried using the SafetyDrill CD that came with the product it would not boot properly on the test system or a Dell Latitude D630. Our contact at Maxtor/Seagate lead us to a newer ISO image to burn a SafetyDrill CD that worked great. This ISO image may not be available to the public just yet, but should appear on the Seagate support page when they feel it is ready. Either try this link, or dial 1-800-2MAXTOR if you need assistance with this issue.
The last tab in Maxtor Manager is called Security, and it will help unauthorized users from prying into your data on the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB External Hard Drive. The DrivePass option will setup a password of your choice so when the OneTouch is connected to a computer it will prompt for a password. Not supplying the correct password you set will leave the drive inaccessible.
The Maxtor Encryption option is a tool that will encrypt and decrypt files on the fly when you drag them into the Maxtor Encryption window. Personally, I would not use this option. It is a nuisance to drag files around to actually open them; I like TrueCrypt much better for an encryption solution.
