Packaging:
The packaging for the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB External Hard Drive is just what you would expect to see on the shelf of a local retail store. The front of the box displays a nice large image of the product, as well as some brief details on the drive. The back of the box is where all of the features and specifications are listed, and from a quick scan I noticed that while it includes USB 2.0 and Firewire, it does not offer eSATA connectivity. If I were to start a wish list, adding eSATA would be nice for faster read/write speeds.
Opening the lid of the box shows the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB External Hard Drive enclosed in a plastic shell, which provides a lot of protection. On top of the shell is a quick start booklet with the Maxtor SafetyDrill CD inside. Popping the top of the shell off shows the drive on the left, while the USB cable, Firewire cable, and power adapter are neatly stuffed in the right side of the shell.
The Basics:
The housing for this massive storage device looks looks rather simplistic, making it as well suited for personal use as it is for business use.
The sides are made of aluminum which will act as a heatsink to help dissipate heat from the hard drive inside. The black portion of the exterior is made of plastic, but disguised is the OneTouch button on the lower right of the below left image. In the below right image you can see some vents on the bottom of the enclosure.
