OCZ Technology PC2-6400 Titanium EPP-Ready Dual Channel DDR2
|
Conclusion:
As always, OCZ Technology has produced a great memory kit; I expected nothing less. The performance was impressive and the enthusiast targeted features made possible through EPP were definitely welcomed. In addition to EPP, these modules support OCZ's EVP (Extended Voltage Protection), which allows the voltage to be raised to 2.3V without impacting the lifetime warranty. All in all, this is a memory kit for the present and the future.
This kit ran solid at the base speed and timings, and thanks to EPP it was able to run at 800MHz on an nVidia 590 motherboard with tighter timings than would be possible on many other motherboards. With about zero effort the system was also able to be overclocked from 800MHz to 1055MHz, as well. While not all systems will implement EPP, I would expect future nVidia chipsets to take advantage of this and allow the owners to enjoy the performance boosting benefits.
A search of PriceGrabber shows the OCZ Technology PC2-6400 Titanium EPP-Ready Dual Channel 2GB DDR2 kit available for as little as $170 (US). The final cost can be under $150 considering a $40 rebate available through several retailers, and at this price you can't beat it for the quality and features.
Given the performance, overclockability, and other enthusiast targeted features, I award the OCZ Technology PC2-6400 Titanium EPP-Ready Dual Channel DDR2 the rating of "Highly Recommended".
Pros:
» Reasonable cost
» Low latency and tight timings
» Easy overclocking
» EVP for 2.3V operation
» Lifetime warranty
Cons:
» EPP available on a small percentage of all motherboards
