OCZ Technology PC2-8500 Platinum SLI-Ready Dual Channel DDR2
January 02, 2007

Conclusion:

Once again it is easy to see why OCZ Technology is one of the top brands in the gaming and enthusiast market. Providing new and innovative features, while keeping their memory stable is what they do best. If you are looking for the absolute best performing RAM for your nVidia SLI system, you can not go wrong with the new OCZ Technology PC2-8500 Platinum SLI-Ready Dual Channel DDR2 2GB kit.

While my current system is not able to officially take full advantage of this RAM, I was able to receive superb results. This RAM will be future proof for some time, as AMD has not begun to take advantage of the high speed that this RAM is capable of. At the speeds I was able to maintain, it provided a perfectly stable machine even with the EPP enabled. With a modest (and easy) overclock, a performance boost of over 10% was achieved when compared to what was possible with the OCZ Special Ops memory kit.

A search of PriceGrabber shows the OCZ PC2-8500 nVidia SLI 2GB kit available for around $400.00. While the 1GB single module is available for close to half that price at just over $200. While I find this price to be high, this memory will give you a significant performance boost. Whether the performance increase is worth it, is up to you and your wallet.

Given the performance and features I award the OCZ Technology PC2-8500 Platinum SLI-Ready Dual Channel DDR2 2GB kit the rating of "Highly Recommended".

Pros:

» Easy overclocking with EPP
» Strong performance
» OCZ lifetime warranty with EVP
» XTC heatspreader
» Stable

Cons:

» Expensive
