OCZ Technology EliteXStream 800W Power Supply
|
Conclusion:
WOW! I am really glad that OCZ Technology sent the EliteXStream 800W power supply for review. I will go out on a limb and say this is the best power supply I have used to date. It is dual GPU certified, 80 plus certified, has a single +12V rail rated at 62A, and includes a hassle free "PowerSwap" warranty of 5 years.
There are more than enough cables for video cards, hard drives, optical drives, and peripherals. All cables are long and there should not be an issue reaching most locations in large full tower systems. The 120mm fan is very silent, I actually looked inside the grill to see if it was spinning. Having a high efficiency power supply will save money on your electric bill, another added bonus to purchasing the OCZ Technology EliteXStream 800W unit.
I had to think for a little while to pick out something I did not like with this unit. It really isn't an issue for a high end or a server class motherboard, but the fact that the 8-pin CPU connector does not break apart would be an issue for all of the motherboards out there that use a 4-pin connector instead. The same could be said of the 24-pin ATX connector not splitting into a 20+4 configuration, but 24-pin seems to be the norm these days.
A quick search of the Internet finds the OCZ Technology EliteXStream 800W power supply at a bunch of retailers with prices starting at around $150 (US). Presently, a $30 rebate available from Newegg.com brings the total price down to about $120. For those that think they need a little more power, the 1000W model can be had for around $210 (US). Both prices are excellent when considering the quality, performance, and features.
The OCZ Technology EliteXStream 800W power supply receives the Bigbruin.com awards of "Gaming Approved" and "Highly Recommended" for its ultra stability and efficiency along with the rarity of a single +12V rail in the modern era of multi-rail units.
Pros:
» 80% Plus Efficiency
» Single +12V rail rated at 62A
» 8 SATA and 8 standard (4-pin) drive connectors
» Quiet 120mm fan (less than 17dBA under normal operation)
» SLI/CrossFire Certified
Cons:
» 8-pin connector does not break apart
