OCZ Technology ProXStream 1000W Power Supply
April 27, 2007

While it seems that more and more manufacturers are jumping on the 1000W power supply bandwagon, I personally feel that they may be overkill for a majority of the computers in the world. However, there will be a few users that insist on having one regardless of need, and there are those that actually need that type of power to run their high end systems. OCZ Technology has been manufacturing enthusiast quality memory for many years, and they have recently expanded their presence in other enthusiast markets, such as coolers, power supplies, and video cards. OCZ Technology's previous power supplies have generally been met with high praise in reviews at Bigbruin.com, and they have now returned with a 1000W unit of their own.

The OCZ Technology ProXStream 1000W Power Supply has some impressive features and specifications, which include Active PFC, a compact form factor (for 1000W units), and high amperage on the various voltage rails. On paper these kinds of details this will put this power supply in the "top of the line" category, but it all comes down to real world performance and reliability. It is time to take a look at this new power supply and see whether it is worthy of the OCZ Technology name, and whether it should be considered "top of the line".

Before taking a look at the unit provided for review, let's look at some published data on the ProXStream 1000W Power Supply taken from the OCZ Technology website...

Packaging:

Like most OCZ Technology hardware, the ProXStream 1000W Power Supply is packaged in an informative retail box constructed of heavy-duty cardboard box which will protect the contents from most damage. The front of the box provides a view of the unit and some basics on its features and specifications, while the back of the box does go into more detail, One of the sides (not pictured) includes the common power-rating table which was summarized in the list above.

Inside the box, the power supply is enclosed in a bubble bag with the cables neatly bound next to it. There is very little room for the power supply to move, which will help keep it from getting damaged.
