NZXT Tempest Mid-Tower ATX Case
May 16, 2008

Installation:

The following components were installed in the NZXT Tempest mid-tower ATX case for review..

» Intel Core 2 Duo e6420 2.13 GHz Dual Core Processor
» Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Intel Motherboard
» 2GB Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 4,4,4,12
» Western Digital 80 gig IDE
» Mad Dog SurePower 430 Watt Power Supply
» EVGA 7600GT KO edition
» Pioneer 20X DVD±R DVD Burner
» Generic black floppy drive
» Thermaltake Blue orb II CPU Cooler

While lacking a removable motherboard tray, installation went smoothly. I found the Tempest to have ample room to install the motherboard. As mentioned before, all of the case connections were clearly marked and easily attached. The power supply I chose for use in this installation did require patience and thought to connect all necessary motherboard power connections. The 12v 4-pin motherboard connector needed to run under the video card due to its length. I was initially concerned that the Blue Orb's size would be a factor in clearing the top exhaust fans, but you can see that it worked out fine even though this cooler extends beyond the top of the motherboard. In this installation I chose to use my motherboard's fan connections to power all case fans with the exception of the 120mm unit on the side panel. NZXT chose not to include a tool-less expansion card lock down system with the Tempest. I prefer screws as I have yet to see a system that works well in all situations. Should you have one of the largest video cards on the market today, the Tempest has you covered, as there is more than enough clearance for the latest and greatest video card offerings.

The image below shows my attempt to manage some of the bulky cables. With some time and patience I believe this case provides all the necessary options to tidy up your cable clutter. Had I used one of my other power supplies I would have had more cable length to properly hide and place a majority of the cables. In fact I chose this PSU knowing it may present a challenge, yet I was able to make it work.

Installation of the front bay components did require the use of tools. I found that the 5.25" bays, as well as the 3.5" adapter tray, did not provide a snug fit using the tool-less rail design. So I opted to use the hardware provided and attached the drives using screws on the right hand side.
