Packaging:
The Nesteq EECS 700 Watt ultra quiet power supply arrived in the box shown below.
There is plenty of information on the outside surfaces, and the box itself looks like it involved a bit of engineering. With velcro flaps that open to reveal more information, a clear window that shows the power supply itself, and a handle to make carrying it more convenient, I don't think I could bring myself to throw it out once emptied.
The box itself is very heavy, which implies that the power supply itself has some weight to it. While being heavy doesn't confirm a high quality design, you can be pretty sure that a light weight unit is probably constructed of cheaper, less robust components. Inside the box, the unit is wrapped in a plastic bag and well protected in one compartment, with the cables stored separately.
External Examination:
The first shot of the 700W EECS power supply from Nesteq reveals that not all of the cables are modular. Here we see that a 20+4 pin motherboard cable, a combination 4 pin and 8 pin auxiliary cable, and a 3 pin fan speed sensing lead are all hard wired to the unit. Other than the fan speed sensing lead, these cables are nicely finished in black mesh with what looks like chokes at either end. Even if these black plastic pieces are purely decorative, they look good and keep things neat.
A 13.5 cm fan takes care of the cooling, and the specifications claim that the automatic fan speed controller will limit the noise output to somewhere in the range of 19-28 dbA.
