Mushkin HP-580AP 580W Enhanced Power Supply
|
Conclusion:
The review of the Mushkin HP-580AP 580W Enhanced Power Supply went very well. Finding a modular power supply that can handle a multi-GPU system can be a little tough, but this unit seems capable of handling just about any of the latest video cards. And with RailFusion, the system can combine the multiple 12V rails into one if it happens to need more than the 20 Amps provided on a single 12V rail.
The modular cables are all of high quality, especially the PCI Express cables capable of supporting 6 or 8 pin graphics cards. This is the first power supply I have used with a total of eight native SATA connections, which is a nice feature especially considering that some of the 1000W units out there don't have this many. The green LED is also a nice change from the standard blue LED that comes with so many power supplies today.
One thing that bothered me was the modular connections on the unit's housing were a little too close together, making it a little more difficult to make all of the connections. And as a minor beef, the Velcro cable ties advertised on the package were replaced by single use plastic zip ties.
A search of PriceGrabber finds a few stores selling the Mushkin HP-580AP 580W Enhanced Power Supply with prices starting at $99.30 before shipping and tax. Another option would be to buy directly from Mushkin, where the price is just $92.00. The price is competitive with other models with similar features, specifications, and quality.
The full featured Mushkin HP-580AP 580W Enhanced Power Supply achieved the Bigbruin.com awards of "Highly Recommended" and "Great Idea" for the overall high quality of the power supply and the RailFusion capability.
