In Use:
After an initial charge, the UBHS-NC1 headset was paired with a Samsung Blackjack II smartphone. The process was simple, and in a matter of seconds it was ready to serve as a stereo headset and for hands free phone use. My first move was to test the capabilities while listening to music files and while watching video files. The initial sound quality was not particularly impressive, as there was a good deal of distortion from two sources, bass and high volume. I turned the volume down a bit, but the issue with the bass was still there. I then tried other 3D sound effects, and found that this solved the problem. In my opinion, two of the presets are unusable as all of my music sounded bad with them. I did find the others to be acceptable, and that one in particular really sounded good. There is no way to know what name is associated with the preset I like, but with it selected I can turn the volume back up, and while the bass isn't strong, it is acceptable.
I then made a few phone calls and was impressed with the results. Not only could my callers here me just fine, but the sound quality on my end was also very good. It was loud enough, clear enough, and having an ear bud in each ear helped to eliminate outside noise that might have otherwise interfered with my calls.
I did not pay extremely close attention to battery life, but do know that with the initial charge they have provided over two hours of talk time, four hours of music playback, and unknown hours (at least 30) of standby time. The specifications rate them for six hours of talk time, five hours of music time, and 150 hours of standby time, and I would say that these may be fair estimates since they show no signs of running out of juice at this point.
Conclusion:
After a few weeks of use, I have grown rather fond of the Lubix UBHS-NC1 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. They are convenient and comfortable, and suit my needs just fine.
Other than the issue with distortion experienced at higher volumes and from bass in some 3D sound effect modes, I have just one other complaint. The ear buds seem to be a little large and don't stay in as well as I would like. While they are just fine while I am stationary, when I am on the go the weight of the headset cantilevered off of my ear can be enough to work them loose. They never fall out, but they don't stay where I want them.
The Lubix UBHS-NC1 Stereo Bluetooth Headset can be found for sale at a variety of online retailers (including Amazon.com and Buy.com) for between $40 and $50 (US). That is a rather competitive price, and definitely adds to the appeal. They may have a few weaknesses, but overall the strengths make them worth considering if you are in the market for a stereo Bluetooth headset.
The design, comfort, and convenience of this headset are definitely the strongest points, but the sound quality shouldn't disappoint, either. All things considered, the Lubix UBHS-NC1 Stereo Bluetooth Headset earn the Bigbruin.com awards of "Recommended" and "Great Idea".
