Logitech G15 Revision 2 Gaming Keyboard
June 24, 2008

Conclusion:

The G15 Revision 2 Gaming Keyboard meets the same high quality standard you would expect from a Logitech product, while incorporating some interesting features to make it extra appealing specifically for 3D game play. The GamePanel LCD can provide a great deal of useful information, the G-keys provide up to 18 custom macro keys, and the multimedia controls provide easy access to your Windows based multimedia applications. Couple these features with a well laid out set of responsive keys, adjustable back lighting, and a two port USB hub, and you have quite a keyboard.

While I didn't encounter any issues while using the G15, some may knock revision two for being much different than the original release. While they are similar, the reduction in overall size, screen size, and number of G-keys might have warranted a new model number. This would not only help distinguish between the two styles better, but would also keep some of the die hard enthusiasts from getting upset at this supposed "downgrade".

A search of PriceGrabber finds the Logitech G15 Revision 2 Gaming Keyboard at several well known stores starting at around $70 (US). This is by no means cheap for a keyboard, but the LCD screen, backlit keys, and programable buttons aren't exactly the type of goodies you'd find on a budget offering. If you won't use the features that make the G15 special, there is no reason to consider the higher price tag, but I can see everything it has to offer coming in handy for game play and every day use.

Considering the quality, functionality, style, and ease of use, the Logitech G15 Revision 2 Gaming Keyboard earns the "Recommended" award. And considering how all of these attributes lend themselves to enhanced game play, it also earns the "Gaming Approved" award.

Recommended Gaming Approved

Pros:

Backlit keys with three lighting levels (off, low, high)

Extra LCD functions can be programmed, or are available online
Well made

Cons:

Price
Should have had a different model number to better distinguish it from original G15 keyboard
