I-Rocks RF-6572 2.4GHz Wireless Keyboard Mouse Combo
October 10, 2008

In Use:

As I stated previously, the combo includes no additional software so it is as simple as plug and go.

Both the keyboard and mouse have an LED to indicate when the battery is low, but other than that they have no battery draining LEDs. While that does help extend the life of the batteries, it makes it difficult to see if you have NUM, CAPS, or SCROLL lock on. If your computer doesn’t have an indicator for these, then it’s something you’re going to have to guess at. While I do understand the battery savings here, I honestly wish they’d include those LEDs.

Both devices were used for several days under normal usage (by a 9 year old video game addict kid) and the batteries are still going strong. So the battery life should be long enough for most users, but still keep a set of AA batteries handy as you would sure hate to run out when you’re in the middle of a frag fest.

Both the mouse and the keyboard are comfortable to use, and I couldn’t see any issues in that department. Both were also very responsive, and I didn’t detect any sort of lag. One thing to note though is that they use the 2.4Ghz spectrum for communications, which is the same range that wireless networks, phones, and many other devices use. While I experienced no problems, it is possible to have frequency overlap in your area. With over 8.3 million possible IDs available with the combo, hopefully nothing should cause anything more than loss of signal strength, and therefore you shouldn’t have to worry about your mouse suddenly flying across the screen when you aren’t even touching it.

I have used a Logitech G7 mouse now for a couple of years, and I really love it. I enjoy having rechargeable batteries that I can just swap out when I need to, instead of having to put in new AAs like you will have to do with the I-Rocks RF-6572. You could use rechargeable batteries and be a little more kind on the environment and your pocket book (in the long run), too. Another feature from the Logitech G7 is that it will go into “sleep" mode after I haven’t used it for a few seconds, and this extends the life of the battery greatly. Unfortunately, the I-Rocks mouse doesn’t appear to do that, and you have to manually shut it off if you aren’t going to use it for a while.
