Daze Products Nintendo DS Game Chamber
January 28, 2008

Conclusion:

It is frustrating to spend $30 to $50 on a Nintendo DS game only to have it lost or damaged. A simple container to hold games securely and only allow one game out at a time is a great option! For a relatively small price you can potentially save yourself a good deal of money and avoid plenty of headaches.

While the Game Chamber is currently only available for the Nintendo DS, Daze Products is working on other models for other game systems. Daze Products is planning on having models for the PSP, and disc operated consoles (X-Box, Playstation, Wii) sometime around the second quarter of 2008. A preliminary drawing of the disc version would have room for 25 discs, and would have a slider for the user to select the game to take out.

One thing I would like to see is something slightly different for the labels. Perhaps a sleeve on the back allowing the user to put in an insert that they can easily change in case the game selection changes. Another thing I would like to see improved is how the games are inserted. If the games are not inserted correctly, the chamber is a little hard to turn. The door helps to ensure the games are inserted fully, but it is not perfect.

Leave it to my 11 year old to figure out a way to defeat the "One Game In, One Game Out" system. He brought it to me empty of all cartridges, smiling with pride because he figured out how to do it. What he did was insert a game and press down hard with his thumb. Turning the chamber slightly, he was able to remove the inserted cartridge and continue to turn the wheel to the next chamber. This is a slight flaw which many children might not discover, but hopefully the next generation Game Chamber will be a bit more fool proof.

The Game Chamber can be bought directly from Daze Products for $19.99, as well as at select retailers for a bit less. PriceGrabber indicates that Amazon.com has all three colors (blue, silver, and pink) available for $12.99 before tax or shipping.

Even though my son was able to figure out how to get all the games out, I still have to give the Game Chamber the rating of "Highly Recommended" since it is rather innovative and could help avoid lost or damaged games.

Pros:

» "One Game In, One Game Out"
» Keeps the Nintendo DS games in one location

Cons:

» Chamber can be hard to turn
» System is not fool proof
