CoolIT Systems Freezone Thermoelectric CPU Cooler
September 11, 2007

When it comes to cooling your computer's processor it is hard to beat the effectiveness of liquid cooling systems. The item we are reviewing today uses six thermoelectric coolers (TECs) coupled with liquid cooling to allow up to 175W of heat to be dissipated from a processor. The company responsible for bringing this technology to a computer near you in a self-contained, maintenance-free kit is CoolIT Systems, from Alberta, Canada. The cooler is known as the CoolIT Systems Freezone Thermoelectric CPU Cooler - let's see if the device lives up to its name.

Company Profile (taken from CoolIT Systems website):

"For years, CoolIT has been working with leaders in the computer industry to research, design, and provide an affordable new cooling product that provides a comprehensive solution for end users while exceeding high OEM standards. This carefully designed and patented technology unleashes the full potential of a PC, providing superior cooling performance while reducing system level noise and improving reliability of vital components. This small, but potent, pre-assembled product can be easily installed inside any standard chassis.

Aside from the current product offering, there are several additional products poised for release in the coming months to service the demanding cooling requirements of high performance video cards, multi-processor computers, and servers."

Product Specifications & Features:

The CoolIT Systems Freezone CPU Cooler is a hybrid of thermoelectric coolers (TECs) and a liquid cooling system. Specifications from the product packaging are provided below. See the CoolIT Systems website for further details and specifications.

Packaging:

The CoolIT Systems Freezone Thermoelectric CPU Cooler comes packaged in a Styrofoam box with a thin blue and white cardboard cover which details critical design specifications. A portion of the box has a printed table that compares features of the Freezone CPU Cooler to other competing cooling devices. As you might expect, the CoolIT Freezone is shown to beat the competitors in just about every test category (notable categories include: lowest CPU temperature, lowest noise, and most environmentally friendly cooling fluid).

The backside of the CoolIT Systems Freezone box presents several graphs which illustrate the capability of this liquid cooler. Published data shows the Freezone is capable of heat transfer 0.10șC/W. The second picture is the Styrofoam box that contains the cooler and all of the supporting installation hardware. Installation instructions and other paper documents sit atop the Styrofoam box.
