The Basics (continued):
The rear I/O panel provides you with the connections shown in the image below. From left to right we have the standard PS/2 ports for a keyboard and mouse, a serial port, an eSATA port, six USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit LAN port, and six 1/8" audio connections for 8 channel high definition audio.
With the six external USB connections and two internal headers, a total of ten USB 2.0 devices could be connected without the need for a hub. Considering there is an SPDIF header on the motherboard, I was disappointed to see that there is no integrated connector or expansion bracket provided in order to use it.
I usually do not take a close look at the back side of the motherboard, but I noticed that there is no backplate to provide support for the CPU cooler. If you are using the OEM heatsink fan, or another light weight cooler, this should not be a problem. On the other hand, if you are using one of the more substantial aftermarket coolers, there may be cause for some concern about the board itself supporting all of the weight.
ECS has included the bare minimum when it comes to accessories, and what is provided will pretty much just help to get your system up and running. Included in the box is a single SATA cable, the rear I/O panel cover, an IDE ribbon, a detailed user's manual, and a multi-language installation sheet. You don't get much, and I would have at least liked a few more SATA cables to be included.
