BFG Tech LS-680 680W Power Supply
September 24, 2008

Packaging:

The packaging for the BFG Tech LS-680 680W power supply is shown below. The box includes enough information on the various surfaces to provide prospective buyers with a decent understanding of what this unit is all about. One of the key things you see right away is that there are four PCI Express connections. This lets you know that BFG Tech had gaming in mind and that they don't think you need a high total power rating in order to need four of these connections.

Inside the box you will find everything shown below well protected by foam forms. There is the power supply in a bubble wrap bag, a user's manual, power cord, mounting screws, and some zip ties for cable management.

External Examination:

The outward appearance of the BFG Tech LS-680 is attractive, but in a no nonsense, somewhat industrial sense of the word. The housing has a flat black finish, the fan is a standard black unit with no LEDs, and the screws used to hold everything together are unpainted steel. While that description may make it sound somewhat generic, the images below show that it looks sharp and that there is no mistaking this as a BFG Tech product. The BFG Tech logo is found at the hub of the fan grill, as well as stamped into the steel on either side of the housing.

The cooling fan measures 135mm in diameter, so it should be able to keep the unit cool with minimal noise. The air is exhausted out the back of the housing through a wide open hexagonal mesh. The only other features out back are an AC power connection, a power switch, and a sticker that indicates that the unit features active PFC (power factor correction).

The above right image shows the data label which happens to be stuck to the side opposite the cooling fan. Here we see all of the electrical specifications provided earlier in the review, as well as three reasons you should not open the housing!
